Pickling and Passivation of Steel Pipes

What Is Pickling & Passivation Pickling and passivation are two forms of chemical metal finishing that provide protective properties to metal especially against rust. Or in other terms, pickling and passivation are the name of the two processes where the metal is submerged in a bathing liquid that removes imperfections and rust from the surface of steel pipe. What Is The Difference Between Pickling & Passivation On the surface there does not seem to be a big difference between the two processes. The differences come down to the intensity of the treatments. Pickling uses acids that take off the surface […]

Seamless Steel Pipe VS Welded Steel Pipe

As an important part of steel products, steel pipes are divided into two types: welded steel pipes and seamless steel tubes due to their different manufacturing processes and the shape of the pipes used. Seamless steel pipes are rarely used in the construction department, and most of them are steel pipes welded with steel plates, referred to as welded pipes. Scaffolding steel pipe is a straight welded pipe. (1) Welded steel pipe The blanks used for welded steel pipes are steel plates or strip steels, which are divided into furnace welded pipes, electric welding (resistance welded) pipes and automatic arc […]

How to choose boiler tubes

What is a boiler tube? Boiler tube is a type of seamless steel tube, which shares the same production technique –hot rolled or cold drawn. It can be both of carbon steel and alloy steel. There are low &medium pressure boiler tube and high pressure boiler tube as per the temperature of the applied conditions. Size of boiler tube Uses of boiler tubes Quality problems of Boiler tubes Types of boiler tubes Standard of boiler tube What is boiler pickling Low and medium pressure boiler tube Characteristics of boiler pipe How to choose boiler tubes High pressure boiler tube Manufacturing Process […]

How to choose a butterfly valve?

What is a Butterfly Valve? Butterfly valve, also known as flip valve, is a simple structure of regulating valve, can be used for low-pressure pipeline medium switch control of the butterfly valve is the closing piece (disc or butterfly plate) for the disc, revolving around the valve shaft to open and close a valve. Valves can be used to control the flow of air, water, steam, various corrosive media, mud, oil, liquid metal and radioactive media and other types of fluid. The cutting and throttling functions are mainly used in pipelines. The butterfly valve opening and closing piece is a […]

What is a pipe bend?

What is a pipe bend? The pipe bend is a pipe fittng that is bent by a set of bending equipment, and is divided into two processes of cold rolling and hot pushing. No matter which kind of machinery and equipment and pipelines are used, most of them use bends, mainly for oil transportation, gas transmission, infusion, construction of engineering bridges, etc. Classification of bends 1, by material: Carbon steel: ASTM/ASME A234 WPB, WPC Alloy: ASTM/ASME A234 WP 1-WP 12-WP 11-WP 22-WP 5-WP 91-WP911, 15Mo3 15CrMoV, 35CrMoV Stainless steel: ASTM/ASME A403 WP 304-304L-304H-304LN-304N ASTM/ASME A403 WP 316-316L-316H-316LN-316N-316Ti ASTM/ASME A403 WP […]

Experimental study on corrosion of top of X65 steel pipeline with sulfur-conta……

The corrosion behavior of different locations of X65 steel oil pipeline was investigated using a high-temperature corrosion test chamber, which aims to simulate the real corrosive environments of oil pipelines. Then the morphology and composition of the corrosion scales were characterized by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (EDS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results demonstrated that with the increasing time, the corrosion rate of X65 steel increased firstly and then slowed down to a lower level for long term. While temperature has obvious influence on the corrosion rate of the X65 steel, which presented the top area of […]

Summary of effects of 48 elements on steel properties

Element 1: H (hydrogen) Source: kaycie-kcd.blogspot.ca Impact on steel performance: H is the most harmful element in general steel. Hydrogen dissolved in steel can cause defects such as hydrogen embrittlement and white spots in steel. Like oxygen and nitrogen, hydrogen has very little solubility in solid steel. It dissolves in molten steel at high temperatures. When it cools, it does not reach out and accumulates in the structure to form high-pressure fine pores, which makes the steel’s plasticity, toughness and fatigue strength drop sharply. In severe cases, it will cause cracks and brittle fracture. “Hydrogen embrittlement” mainly occurs in martensitic steel, […]

Influence of Coastal Soil Environment on Local Corrosion of Oil and Gas Pipeli……

The direct cause for the explosion accident occurred by Dong Huang pipeline is that the corrosion of pipeline was enhanced by coastal soil, which in turn resulted in thinning and then cracking of the pipe. Because localized corrosion cracking in coastal soils is a serious threat to the integrity and security for the pipeline, the effect of the coastal soil environment on localized corrosion for oil and gas pipeline was analyzed systematically. Typical corrosion environmental characteristics were acquired and then analyzed firstly for the specified coastal soil, which in general is rather different from the terrestrial soil and seabed soil […]

Comprehensive detection and evaluation method for external pipeline corrosion ……

A comprehensive evaluation of the external corrosion situation for the aged Sanhua crude oil pipeline in Xinjiang oilfield was carried out by combined techniques of alternating current attenuation method (PCM), DC potential gradient (DCVG) and close interval potential survey (CIPS). The evaluation includes such as soil corrosion survey, coating integrity survey, effectiveness of cathodic protection (CP), DC/AC stray current interference and site excavation. Results revealed that coatings are aged with total 592 of serious damaged spots along the piprline; the potential of 39.2 km pipeline does not meet CP potential standard. Based on the comprehensive evaluation results, measures related with […]

What is a stainless steel elbow

What is a stainless steel elbow? Stainless steel elbow is one of the most used pipe fittings in pipes. Its proportion is up to 70% and 80% in pipe fittings. It occupies a considerable proportion of all pipe fittings, which shows that it is important in the pipeline. The main function of the elbow is to change the direction of the pipe. All pipes are not always possible, so elbow steering is required. The most commonly used is stainless steel 90 degree elbow, stainless steel 45 degree elbow, stainless steel 180 degree elbow, and special angle elbow, or long elbow, big […]
